Depression’s Main Types and Signs
Severe mood disorder and mood swings are the major issues in depression. This mood changes and swings often and severely affect thinking and feelings towards activities and handling daily tasks. However, with depression symptoms cannot e noticed immediately but after a while or a period of two weeks the signs can now be seen and that is when one is diagnosed with depression.
Many circumstances and actions can lead to depression. One type of depression is the persistent depressive disorder which lasts for a period of about two years. Symptoms are not very severe under the persistent depressive disorder but they remain to be seen within that range of time. Postpartum is way too severe than the other forms of depression.
Mainly the postpartum depression is more serious than the depression resulting after giving birth which are caused by anxiety and mild depressive symptoms. However, victims of postpartum depression are likely to suffer from full brown depression which mainly happens during the pregnancy or post-delivery. Among the symptoms seen include sadness, fatigue and exhaustion, high levels of anxiety. These symptoms are likely to alter the way a new mother is going to handle the caring and mothering responsibilities for both to themselves and their new born.
Psychosis and depression make up the psychotic depression. Psychosis involves a disturbing moment of untrue views and beliefs. A case where one sees images that are not there and sounds can be related with the psychotic depression. Illness, delusions of poverty and guilt are a common psychotic signs.
Seasonal effective disorder occurs when there is onset of new seasons like winter. However, the depression shifts during the summer and the spring seasons. Such depression is characterized with public withdrawal, high sleeping periods, increased wight gain and heavy feeding. This depression ends when the season ends.
A feeling of emptiness which results because of sadness and anxious mood is common in depression. In depression, one faces a feeling of depression, guilt and helplessness. Losing interest is common in depression and one barely finds pleasure from any activities. The victim also undergoes periods of exhaustion, fatigue and lack of energy to do things.
There is very poor concentration, remembering and decision making when one is suffering from depression. Sleeping difficulties and oversleeping are common when one is suffering from depression. Depression victims are likely to have appetite changes and some find themselves with high appetites and some with low low appetites. Suicidal thoughts may arise under the more severe conditions of depression. It is common for depression victims to suffer from pains and aches like headaches.
